VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Barnes County Commission heard a presentation from the architectural firm hired to design the new jail.
Klein McCarthy Architects President Scott Fetting discussed the proposed design and scope of the project during a commission meeting on Tuesday, January 7th.
The latest cost estimate lists the jail at $11.9 million and the sheriff’s office at $4.4 million.
Barnes County Commissioner Vicki Lovell said due to the cost estimate, we may have to drop the sheriff’s office from the construction project and focus only on building a new jail.
The remaining Barnes County Commissioners said more discussions will be needed before anything is approved.
Under the proposal, a new jail would be built east of the National Guard Maintenance facility along the I-94 corridor frontage road in Valley City.
