JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Stutsman County Park board met in special session Friday, January 3rd to discuss the sole bid submitted for Pelican Point Concessionaire.
A bid submitted by Tom Schultz of Jamestown was for a proposed contract of a 10-year lease with a starting annual fee of $1,000 for the concessionaire. This would have made the concessionaire responsible for all fees and amenities while leaving pumping to the county. Schultz stated if he were to take over pumping, he would need a longer lease to justify the cost. No final decision was made, with some board members citing a concern with the length of the lease.
During the special meeting, Commissioner Dave Schwartz stated he liked the 15-year proposal because it would eliminate some future costs for the county.
Board member Joan Morris stated she was uncomfortable with the length of the contract, also point out the potential revenue the county would be missing out on.
The board ultimately decided to approve a 15-year contract and leave all expenses and pumping to Schultz. The lease amount would be $1 per year and once the upper campground is complete, that lease amount will be $8,000 a year.
The vote was 5-2 with Steve Cichos and Joan Morris voting nay.
