OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Oakes High School senior Nicole Schmitz decided earlier this week to play her collegiate volleyball at the University of Jamestown.
After a long deliberation period of where to go to college, Schmitz is relieved the process is over.
Schmitz decided in favor of the Jamestown Jimmies after a trip to Pittsburgh, PA. North Dakota’s Outstanding Senior Athlete of the Year played in a showcase in the Steel City, and it had an impact on her decision making process.
Ultimately, Jamestown was Schmitz’ pick because of a familiarity factor. She knew and trusted the coaches, and discussed her decision with other athletes in the area such as Ellie and Anna Holen from LaMoure High School.
On the same day UJ announced Schmitz’ signing, the Jimmies also announced the signing of NDSU transfer Kalli Hegerle, the niece of Head Coach Jon Hegerle.
Schmitz and Hegerle picked a great time to attend Jamestown as the Jimmies are on the heels of the program’s first every trip to the Final Four before losing to the eventual champions Marian (Ind.).
