JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – BIO Girls, a self-worth building program, began in Fargo years ago, spreading to more than 50 locations across North Dakota.
The Jamestown BIO Girls program started 4 years ago and is entering it’s 5th year this spring. Cathleen O’Higgins is the Site Director for Jamestown.
Created for girls in grades 2 through 6, their overall mission is to improve the self-esteem of adolescent girls through empowerment of self and service to others.
O’Higgins says many may know the BIO Girls in Jamestown through the Running of the Pink event. She says they’re not a running club and the importance of the club is greater now more than ever.
O’Higgins says the non-profit relies on donations from businesses and individuals. It also relies on volunteers who mentor the girls, which is how she got involved with the local program.
Registration for the Jamestown program will be in February. The club will begin their 12-week course in March.
An event that’s open to the public on January 11th will allow the public to come learn more about BIO Girls and what they do.
BIO Girls Bootcamp will be held at the Two Rivers Activity Center and will have many different courses. They will be accepting free-will donations and you don’t need to be a TRAC Member to participate.
