JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Isaiah Dobson (SR/Stillwater, MN) scored 42 points, becoming just the fourth University of Jamestown men’s basketball player to score 40 or more points in a game, and the Jimmies defeated Dickinson State (N.D.) University 101-89 Monday evening at Harold Newman Arena.
Dobson’s 42-point night trails only Jon Purintun’s 45 against Valley City State (N.D.) last December 15 on the single-game scoring list. Brent Offerdahl (41, 1994-95) and Jake Holen (40, 1/18/08) are the other Jimmies to reach the 40-point plateau.
In addition, Dobson went 16-of-16 from the free throw line, tying Beau Hensel’s single-game record for most made free throws without a miss, set back in 2001-02.
Brock Schrom (JR/Grand Rapids, MN) finished with 24 points and nine rebounds, while Terrell Alfred (SR/Orlando, FL) added 19 points and three assists. Jack Talley (JR/Sioux Falls, SD) chipped in with seven points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Dobson (20), Alfred (17), and Schrom (12) were all in double figures in the first half, helping UJ to a 60-48 lead at the break. The 60-point half was the second for the Jimmies this season.
Dobson and Schrom combined for 34 of Jamestown’s 41 second-half points as UJ maintained a lead in the double digits for the majority of the half. The Jimmies’ largest lead of the night came after a Dobson three-pointer made it 80-62 with 11:14 left.
Jamestown (9-4) returns to Great Plains Athletic Conference play on Saturday when they host No. 2 Morningside (Iowa) at 4 p.m.
