JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Members of local and state law enforcement spent a portion of their Saturday afternoon taking local, underprivileged kids shopping for Christmas.

20 kids participated in the annual event where members of the Jamestown Police Department, Stutsman County Sheriff’s Office, North Dakota Highway Patrol, North Dakota Patrol & Probation, as well as other agencies took the kids shopping, giving each one $100 to purchase gifts and other necessities.  Over $2,000 was raised for the kids to participate.  Officer Andrew Staska was a coordinator of the event.  He says fundraising efforts took place throughout the year.

Staska says each kid’s purchase varied differently, based on needs and interests.

Staska says the effects of the program has a lasting effect on the kids and is an opportunity for law enforcement to give back.

Officer Staska says that students were selected based on need.  He also noted the department does receive donations throughout the year for this event, which are welcomed.
