BISMARCK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – State School Superintendent Kirsten Baesler is asking North Dakotans to comment on state regulations about guns in schools.

A new state law allows schools to have “armed first responders.” The responders would be allowed to carry concealed guns in their schools. They would need school board approval – and they would have to go through extensive training.

The Department of Public Instruction has drafted rules to implement the Armed First Responder program. A public hearing is being held at the Capitol on Monday, December 9th.

The hearing is at 9:30 a.m. in the Peace Garden Room.

Baesler says North Dakotans who want to comment on the rules may attend the public hearing. They may also send written comments to the Department of Public Instruction.

The comment deadline is 5 p.m. on December 19th.
