CARRINGTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – For the past 20 years, the Canadian Pacific Holiday train has traveled along their Canadian and U.S. lines, bringing an effort to raise money, food, and awareness.
In that time, the Holiday Train has raised more than $15.8 million and collected over 4.5 million pounds of food. Media Relations Manager Andy Cummings calls the train the “worlds longest rolling fundraiser.”
Cummings says in each community they stop in, they have a partner food shelf that they collect money and food for. He says other than asking for donations, the show they put on at each stop is free and open to anyone.
The train has planned stops in New York, Ontario, Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and North Dakota before returning to Saskatchewan and Alberta.
Cummings says their North Dakota stops include Hankinson, Enderlin, Carrington, Harvey, Minot, and Kenmare.
He says a big part of the Holiday Train is not only helping the local food pantries, but also encouraging others to give.
The CP Holiday Train is scheduled to stop in Hankinson on December 14th at 6:45 PM, followed by Enderlin at 9:15 PM. ON December 15th, the train will arrive in Carrington at 1:45 PM and later in Harvey at 4 PM.
