BISMARCK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Moderate to heavy snow is expected to develop Friday evening and bring with it blizzard conditions for the weekend.

The Bismarck National Weather Service reports that snowfall is expected Friday night through Saturday night and drop a significant amount of snow.

“Gusty winds will combine with the snow for possible blizzard conditions late Friday night through Saturday night,” the Weather Service states. “Snow and gusty winds will end from west to east Sunday morning. Prior to Friday night, expect areas of light freezing drizzle and very light snow. Travel will be severely impacted.”

Totals expected could be anywhere from 2 to 5 inches in northern counties to 12 to 15 inches in southern counties. This includes the cities of Bismarck, Carrington, Jamestown, and Linton. Further west, 8 to 12 inches of snow are expected.

“Travel could be very difficult to impossible and near blizzard conditions with widespread blowing snow is expected. This could bring down tree branches causing power outages and roads could become blocked.”

You’re asked to delay travel if possible and if you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in case of an emergency.
