YANKTON, S.D. (JimmieAthletics.com) – Trailing by eight points with just over five minutes left in regulation, the 16th-ranked University of Jamestown men’s basketball team used an 11-3 run to force overtime, only to fall 93-88 to Mount Marty College Monday night.
Jamestown (7-4 overall, 1-3 Great Plains Athletic Conference) lost its third straight game. The Jimmies return to Harold Newman Arena on December 4 against Dordt (Iowa).
Terrell Alfred (SR/Orlando, FL) twice hit three-pointers to tie the game for UJ, then gave Jamestown the lead at 58-56 with 11:13 in the second half. The Lancers responded with a 17-7 run over the next 5:42 to take an eight-point lead.
Down five at the 2:36 mark, Mason Walters (FR/Jamestown, ND) made a pair of free throws to cut the lead to three, then Alfred was good again from beyond the arc to tie the game with 1:17 left. The teams traded baskets and the game went to overtime tied at 78.
Mount Marty opened overtime with six of the first eight points to pull ahead 86-80. Alfred hit his sixth three of the game to cut the lead in half with 2:49 to play, but the Lancers were able to get a free throw, a bucket, and a Jimmie turnover to help push the lead back to six.
Alfred finished with a season-best 26 points and tied a career-high with six threes. Walters had a double-double of 21 points and 17 rebounds. Isaiah Dobson (SR/Stillwater, MN) tied his season high with 16 points, while Brady Birch (JR/Melrose, MN) came off the bench to add 13 points. Jack Talley (JR/Sioux Falls, SD) narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Elijah Pappas led Mount Marty with 17 points off the bench and was one of five Lancers in double figures. Chris King and Ryan Warren each had 16 points, and Colby Johnson chipped in with 13 points and nine rebounds.
