JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Public Works Committee received the latest information from Interstate Engineering regarding the proposed Road Diet Thursday evening.
Been Aaseth with Interstate Engineering reports that the public comment period for the project is over and the report has been compiled and sent to the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT).
Aaseth stated that originally, there was only one proposed traffic light stop near Alfred Dickey Library, but further review changed that.
Aaseth pointed out that a majority of public comments indicated that the elimination of most traffic signals along Main Street was not favorable.
Mayor Dwaine Heinrich stated that the project will continue to move forward based on the NDDOT recommendations.
City Engineer Travis Dillman stated that in talks with the NDDOT and representatives working on the project, if issues did arise with traffic, the lights, or it just wasn’t working out, the NDDOT would work with the city to rectify the issues.
Dillman also stressed that the decisions being made were to coincide with federal rules and regulations.
Bids for the project will be let sometime in the near future.
