VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – About $1.1 million dollars in damage was reported earlier this month throughout Barnes County. Most of the damage occurred as a result of flooding due to heavy rainfalls in September followed by a snow storm in October.

City Administrator David Schelkoph said the flooding from those weather related events caused river bank erosion at three locations in Valley City.

He said more than $200-thousand in damage was attributed just to river bank erosion.

Schelkoph said repairing the river bank erosion is a top priority for the city. He said the city of Valley City submitted other expenses from the October flood fight totaling $487,000 dollars to the county emergency manager.

Meanwhile, the Barnes Rural Water District submitted expenses of $497,000 and Barnes County Townships submitted road damages totaling $195,000 to the county emergency manager earlier this month.
