LINTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – District 5 will be represented on both sides of the floor in the Region 3 Volleyball Championship this Thursday.
Here’s how the semifinals unfolded Tuesday night:
D5 #1 Oakes def. D5 #3 LaMoure-Litchville/Marion 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-16)
For the second time this season, Oakes defeated LaMoure in straight sets. The first set was a back and fourth battle through the first 22 points. LaMoure opened scoring five of the first seven, Oakes followed with a 8-0 run and then LaMoure scored five of the next seven again. Oakes scored 8 of last 12 points to win the opener. Oakes used a 6-0 run and a 5-0 run to down LaMoure in the second set before taking the third 25-16. Oakes was lead by Nicole Schmitz with 10 kills and Abby Cox with eight. Ashlyn Rode recorded 12 kills to lead LaMoure.
D5 #2 Carrington def. D6 #1 Linton-HMB 3-1 (17-25, 25-20, 25-11, 25-23)
Linton struck first after going on the longest run of the entire tournament. The Lions scored 11 in a row to pull away from Carrington in the first set. After that, Carrington snatched the next three sets. The fourth set was a see-saw battle down the stretch but Carrington, tied at 23, scored the last two points and prevailed. Bella Hone had the game winner and finished with 12 kills and Hannah Hagel recorded a team high 15 kills. Linton was lead by Teegan Scherr with 16 kills.
Linton HMB will meet LaMoure at 5:00 in the 3rd place match Thursday at Linton High School. Oakes and Carrington will battle for a region championship 25 minutes after the completion of the 3rd place match.
