JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Frontier Village Association Board has scheduled a meeting Tuesday evening at the All Vets Club, but was unable to conduct business after failing to meet quorum.

Items to be discussed included appointment of new FVA members, resignation of current board members, transfering items over to the City of Jamestown with Jamestown Tourism acting as the non-profit recipient, and consideration of dissolving the FVA.

Board President Melody Mittleider was the only member to show for the meeting. According to a letter from Matthew Sorensen, attorney with Vogel Law Offices, members Tina Busche, Joann Herrick, Shawn Syverson, and Jason Holland advised him they “would not be attending the meeting.”

Mittleider was given the letter, but stated she did not receive it directly, but rather through a third party. She read a portion of the letter to a those who had gathered for the planned meeting.

Mittleider went on to read that members felt they had already conducted all business needed to transfer all artifacts and such to the City of Jamestown.

She stressed that Sorensen was “their” lawyer and not the FVA Board’s lawyer. She said she’ll continue to fight for the board to do the right thing and work with the city to make the transition easy.

Jamestown Tourism Executive Director Searle Swedlund was present at the meeting, and thanked Melody for her continued work.

A member of the public asked why the City Attorney was not present at the meeting to help conduct matters. Mayor Dwaine Heinrich stated the Attorney Leo Ryan is aware of everything, but they don’t want to be goaded into overreacting.

Mayor Heinrich stated that the important thing to take away is the board still intends to turn the property over to the city. He said there would be some hoops to jump through still, but they would start working towards that resolution.
