VALLEY CITY, N.D. (vcsuvikings.com) – Valley City State defeated Providence College in their second matchup of the weekend 87-66 on Sunday afternoon.
The Vikings dominated the floor in the first half led by Alexis Bentz who went 3-for-3 on 3’s to start the game. Valley City State held the Pilots to just eight points in the first quarter and 20 points in the first half, as the Vikings held a 41-20 lead at halftime.
The Pilots heated up in the third, outscoring the Vikings 27-26 in the quarter. Out of Providence’s 27 points, 24 were scored in the paint. The Vikings would add to their momentum in the fourth quarter as they led by as much as 29 points, securing the 87-66 win at home.
Valley City State had four players who scored in double-digits on Sunday. Mackenzie Huber led the way with 15, Allison Bartholomay added 14 off the bench, Alexis Bentz finished with 13 and Adriana Torres contributed 12. The Vikings had 42 rebounds to the Pilots’ 22 on Sunday.
Providence College was led by Hannah Van Schie who had 15 points in the game, followed by Megan Weibe with 14.
Valley City State shot 53 percent from the field (33-62), 48 percent on 3’s (11-23), and 83 percent on free throws (10-12). Providence College shot 41 percent from the field (26-64), 33 percent on 3’s (6-18), and 67 percent from the free throw line (8-12).
Valley City State improves to 2-2 this season.
