VALLEY CITY, N.D. (Newsdakota.com) – With the season winding down, Valley City needs two wins in the final two conference matches to avoid a play-in match for the Eastern Dakota Conference tournament. Number one is in the books. The Hi-Liners used another strong defensive performance and swept Devils Lake 25-21, 25-15, 25-15 to pickup two key points in the EDC standings.

Cali Halgrimson lead another good defensive effort with 18 digs. Libero Alyssa Hatcher had 15. Dylann Diegel added 13 and Jocey Kriewald, Natalie Lemnus and Macy Olstad all had nine. Peyton enshad three blocks. Macy Olstad, Lindsey Noeske and Jayden Dieterle had two each.

Olstad led the offense with 16 kills. Noeske had 10. Halgrimson added eight and Pederson finished with 5. Lemnus and Diegel each had 17 assists giving Diegel the double-double.

Maya Barendt led the Firebirds with nine kills. Jessica Mertens had eight kills and Abby Johnson had four. Olivia Elfman chipped in 20 assists.

The Hi-Liners are 12-7 in the conference and 14-9 overall. Devils Lake falls to 4-14 in the conference and 6-16 overall.

With Grand Forks Red River’s win over West Fargo, the Hi-Liner will be either the number four or five seed in the upcoming EDC tournament.
