LACROSSE,WI (vcsuvikings.com) – Valley City State fell to No. 6 Viterbo 25-23, 25-18, and 25-12 Saturday afternoon.
The Vikings started out strong with a 7-6 lead against the nationally-ranked V-Hawks. After tying at 8-8, Viterbo would score five straight points as they gained momentum in front of their home crowd. At Viterbo’s match point 24-19, Valley City State would score four straight points including a pair of Caitlyn Fischbach kills and a Kallene Klever service ace. Katie Frohmader would put it away for Viterbo, securing the first set 25-23.
The Vikings would keep up with Viterbo in the second set with an early 12-12 tie. A Viking service error would allow Viterbo to take a lead for the rest of the way, taking the set 25-18.
Viterbo would hold the Vikings to a .000 hitting percentage in set three as they took the set 25-12.
Valley City State drops to 5-17 overall and 1-10 in the NSAA. Viterbo improves to 26-5 overall and 10-1 in the North Star.
The Vikings were led by Charlotte Huschka with 21 digs. Alexa Walby tallied 17 assists while Reagan Ingstad added seven. Caitlyn Fischbach led the offense with nine kills while Katie Juarez added five.
