JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – North Dakota residents are digging themselves out following record snowfall for the past three days.

Blizzard conditions caused major drifts, icy roads, and forced the North Dakota Department of Transportation & North Dakota Highway Patrol to close major roadways.

On Friday, Governor Doug Burgum activated the state’s emergency plan.

“The extraordinary intensity of this early winter storm threatens to test the limits of local response capabilities across a large portion of our state,” Burgum said of the plan that places on standby all agency resources, including the National Guard, to respond to weather-related emergencies.”

The US National Weather Service in Bismarck reports that nearing the end of the storm, Harvey was left with the most snowfall reported in North Dakota with 30 inches.

Other major snowfall reported includes Fessenden with 27 inches, Jamestown with 17, Bismarck with 16.4, and Montpelier with 11.

The Weather Service reports that there will be warm weather to look forward too into next week. Forecasts show highs of 39 in Devils Lake, 41 degrees in Harvey, 44 in Jamestown, and 47 in Ashley.
