(NewsDakota.com) Simon Maddock threw a season high nine strikeouts and the Oakes Post 36 American Legion baseball team earned their first Section 2 win of the season defeating Enderlin Post 221 6-4 at Cummings Field in Oakes on Monday night.

Post 36 left the bases loaded in the first three innings, but did score five times in the second inning and their other run in the third. Enderlin started the game with two runs on three hits, but Maddock shut down Post 221 in the next three and a third innings with the exception of a double in the third. Enderlin had a chance in the top of the seventh but stranded two runners in scoring position.

Maddock only walked three batters for Post 36 (1-2 Section 2) while Tanner Groth took the loss for Post 221 (2-1 Section 2) striking out five batters and allowing seven hits. Cole Ehrlin had a double and two singles in the win, while Daniel and Thomas Lindgren each had two doubles in defeat.

Oakes head coach Lucas Patzlaff had praise for Maddock and the rest of his team after a hard fought victory.

Next up for Post 36 is a Wednesday contest at Wapheton, and the next Section 2 game is set for Thursday night versus LaMoure. Coverage on KDDR-AM 1220 and NewsDakota.com starts Thursday at 7:15 p.m.
