ASHLEY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A late night was eased with a 3-1 (26-28, 25-14, 25-16, 25-14) victory over the South Border Mustangs (7-4).
Oakes improved to 22-1 with the victory last night but went to four sets for the first time this season. The opening set was a back and forth affair. Neither of the teams went on a run larger than three and neither teams led by more than three. It took extra points but South Border was able to pull out the first set win 28-26.
After that, it was all Oakes. The Tornadoes took the second set 25-14 behind a robust performance from Nicole Schmitz. Schmitz would go on to finish her night with a season high 21 kills and added six aces to the mix as well.
In the third set, Oakes fell behind 5-2 at early on but would rebound. Allison Jepson had a strong set with two key blocks and a couple kills as Oakes took the second set 25-16. Jepson recorded seven kills for the match.
Finally, Oakes took care of business in the 4th set by winning 25-14. Oakes went on two different four point runs through the first ten points of the match to take an 8-2 lead. The Tornadoes closed out the night with three straight wins after dropping the opener to down South Border.
Next time out for Oakes will be Monday at Kindred.
