JAMESTOWN, N.D. (JimmieAthletics.com) – The 13th-ranked University of Jamestown women’s volleyball team remained undefeated in Great Plains Athletic Conference play Saturday evening, defeating Briar Cliff (Iowa) University 3-0 at Harold Newman Arena. Set scores were 25-15, 25-21, 25-19.
Jamestown (13-2, 4-0 GPAC) is at Dickinson State (N.D.) Tuesday night for a non-conference match.
In what has become a common theme for the Jimmies this season, setters Miranda Lowman (SR/Mandan, N.D.) (18 assists) and Jackie Meiklejohn (SO/Dickey, N.D.) (12) continually set the UJ hitters up all match long with positive results. Five players recorded at least four kills in the match, led by Jordan Thomas (SR/Pingree, N.D.) with nine and Britta Knudson (SR/Bismarck, N.D.) with eight. Taylor Sabinash (SO/Kensal, N.D.) hit .667 with five kills and Knudson hit .438 in 16 attempts. Corina Ruud (JR/Breezy Point, Minn.) hit .400 with seven kills.
On the defensive side, Sydney Ellingson (JR/Langdon, N.D.) registered 12 digs, followed by Meiklejohn and Anna Holen (SO/LaMoure, N.D.) with six. Sabinash led the way with four total blocks while Holen, Knudson, and Ruud each added three.
The sweep was the fifth of 2019 for Jamestown and the fourth in their last five matches.
The Jimmies return to conference play next weekend with road matches at Dordt (Iowa) and Northwestern (Iowa).
