HARVEY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Sophomore QB Isaac Friese threw for 263 yards and two touchdowns as the Hornets of Harvey/Wells County hang on to defeat the Cardinals of Carrington Friday night 12-6 in Class A Region II High School Football action. HWC improves to 2-2 overall and 2-0 in the region, Carrington falls to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the region.
The Hornets scored their two touchdowns in first half, Friese would connect with Sophomore Alex Erickson for a 54-yard catch and run TD on their very first play of the game. At the start of the second quarter, Friese would connect again with Erickson, this time a 48-yard catch and run TD. The Cardinals got on the board with about three minutes left in the third quarter, Senior QB Seth Nelson would punch it in from three yards out after the team drove 90 yards for the touchdown. The Cardinals had several chances to tie later in the second half but came up short. Nelson threw for 111 yards, had an interception and ran the ball 12 times for 77 yards with one touchdown.
The Cardinals were shutout the previous two games, against Grafton and Minot Ryan.
