BISMARCK, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Youth are in focus this weekend in the state of North Dakota.

Deer season for young hunters is set to open at 12 PM today and continue for 9 1/2 days. A 2019 general game and habitat license must be purchased. Licensed residents who turn age 11, 12 or 13 in 2019, are allowed to hunt statewide, but only for antlerless white-tailed deer.

Game & Fish Outreach Biologist Doug Leier says if you don’t want to worry about a tag, youth can participate in the youth waterfowl season, which begins Saturday and Sunday.

Leier says youth should be the focus and adults shouldn’t be using it as a chance to scout.

You can listen to Doug Leier chat the outdoors with JD in the Morning on Big Dog Country 95.5 FM every Thursday at 7:35 AM.
