hi-liner-vb-2019

VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota) – The Valley City Hi-Liners opened up the home portion of the 2019 season with a 3-0 win over Grand Forks Central. The Hi-Liners won 25-19, 25-18, 25-16 to improve to 2-0 in the EDC and 6-3 overall.

After jumping out to an 22-8 lead at one point in the first set, the Valley City Hi-Liners had to hold off Grand Forks Central who went 11-1 run to cut the lead to 23-19. But Valley City would get the last two points to win the first set.

The Knights would lead by three points twice in the second set 5-2 and 9-6, but Valley City rallied with a 16-4 to take the lead 22-13 before taking the set 25-18.

Again in the third set the Knights would get a three point lead twice 4-1 and 9-6, but again Valley City rallied to take the set 25-16.

Head Coach Mattie Cruff says, it was pretty but they found a way pull out the win.

Offensively, Calli Halgrimson led the Hi-Liners with nine kills. Lindsey Noeske had eight and Macy Olstad and Jadyn Dieterle had five each. Natalie Lemnus and Dylann Diegel were each in double figures in sets. Lemnus had 17 and Diegel 12. Cruff says those two do a nice job running the offense.

The defense was strong with four players in double figures in digs. Halgrimson lead the way with 27. Alyssa Hatcher had 11, Lindsey Noeske and Macy Olstad had ten each. Peyton Pederson also had four blocks.

The Hi-Liners will host Wahpeton tonight at 7pm at the Hiliner Activity Center for another EDC matchup.
