JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown will see an increase in their sales tax by 1/2 percent effective January 1st, 2020.

The Jamestown City Council unanimously approved the second reading during their regular meeting Tuesday.

The sales tax increase is estimated to generate $1.3 million per year and is earmarked for the operation and maintenance of the Jamestown Civic Center and infrastructure costs in town.

Also approved was the request from AE2S to amend the current agreement for the Water Treatment Plant data security and alarm program at a cost of $20 monthly.

Later, Councilmember Pam Phillips reported that the 2020 city census steering committee is planning to assist the upcoming census next year. She says residents will be seeing more information in the mail soon.

Councilmember Dave Steele took time to encourage residents of the Popup Bike/Walk 2019 on September 7th.

Mayor Dwaine Heinrich later reported that following the budgeting process, it’s now time for those who are 65 years and older, disabled, and make $42,000 need to visit the assessor regarding the homestead tax credit.

Mayor Heinrich pointed out that applications were available at the city hall.
