JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Public Works Committee heard the latest from the City Engineer regarding the rehabilitation of Wells 8 & 9 in McElroy Park.
City Engineer Travis Dillman says they have already ordered the pitless units on an emergency nature with a 12 to 14 week lead time to ensure operation this fall.
Dillman says “aggressive” water is causing corrosion in that area.
The committee unanimously approved the project. They also approved a public meeting to discuss Lift Station 20 and Master Lift Station Improvements for September 26th.
Also in the meeting, Jamestown Fire Chief Jim Reuther updated the council on their ladder truck. Ruether stated they had to replace hydraulic cylinders earlier this year. He says they then tried to level the basket up front, but were unsuccessful.
He says now they’ll need to send the truck off to get the repairs in Minnesota.
With the truck being state of North Dakota property, an agreement between the city and state would have the state providing the funds to repair anything over $500.
Ruether says they will not have a ladder truck to service the area, but says they’ll make sure they have plenty of water as a backup. While it’s not the backup they need, they should have the capability to provide fire protection to the city.
The city also discussed the authorization of the city to make preliminary application for Economic Development Funds for a National Guard Facility in the Jamestown Airport Industrial Park.
Mayor Dwaine Heinrich says there’s been meetings with National Guard personnel and Airport staff to look a the possible use of the development funds to secure the land to build.
The vote was unanimous with Pam Phillips absent.
