Educators, leaders, and innovators from across the state participated in different panels and discussions Wednesday at the Jamestown High School. Governor Burgum says the discussions today will focus on a major topic in the state; behavioral health.

Burgum says students who get on the wrong path leave the educational system and enter the correctional system. He says the costs statewide for each student is estimated at $10,000 per student. Per incarceration, the cost is $41,000 a year.

When asked about a trend he was seeing with education across the state, Governor Burgum stated he was learning more about personalized learning.

Burgum says the model is changing as classrooms adapt for different learning styles.

Jamestown Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Robert Lech stated that they were glad to have the summit in Jamestown.

“It’s been held in Bismarck and Cass County and now in Jamestown,” Lech stated. “It’s a pretty nice feather in our cap.”
