JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The 79th Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally means there will be increased traffic in the coming days.
The North Dakota Department of Transportation is reminding motorists and motorcyclists to watch for the increased traffic on the roads before and after the rally August 2nd through the 11th.
Sgt. Wade Kadrmas is with the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
In North Dakota in 2018, nearly 80% of all reported motorcycle crashes resulted in injury or death, and 69% of those fatalities were not wearing helmets.
Sgt. Kadrmas says Vision Zero is a primary focus especially.
The NDDOT states that partnering states like South Dakota and Wyoming will use banners at rest areas, as well as social media, to promote the message of “Live to ride. Ride to live. Safe 2 Sturgis”.
Sgt. Kadrmas says they just want everyone to get where their going safely.
