OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – In a thriller, the Fargo Bombers Post 2 defeated the LaMoure Post 19 to advance to the state tournament in Hazen this week.

The first six innings consisted of nothing but zeroes on the scoreboard. LaMoure’s starter Jace Hanson didn’t allow a hit and pitched into the 7th inning. Fargo’s starter Luke Kallad allowed one a pair of singles over six innings. It was the two best pitching performances of the tournament and both happened in the championship game.

Inning 7 didn’t follow suit, however. The Bombers turned to Chase Hansen to hurl the 9th, but LaMoure, held to just two hits prior to the 7th, led the inning off with a first pitch double off the bat of Rory Gentzkow. After a sac bunt to get Gentzkow to third, lead off hitter Alex Klever punched in the first run of the game with an RBI base knock. An error and a hit batter would load the bases up for Mac Bierman. Up a run, Bierman grounded out to score another run and a throwing error would bring in a second run to make it 3-0. LaMoure would strike for another and take an almost insurmountable 4-0 lead into the bottom of the 7th.

Jace Hanson started the 7th inning on the mound and walked the lead off hitter. Due to a high pitch count, Hanson would be forced to leave the mound. Reliever Shay Ness, who started in the 11-1 win over Oakes earlier in the day, would allow back-to-back singles to load the bases. Ness got a key strikeout of the lead off hitter Dylan Tostenson, but with one away and three on, Calvin Clasen delivered a two-run single to cut the lead in half. Then Fargo would draw back-to-back walks to load the bases and then walk in a run to make it 4-3.

With the tying run at third, the winning run at second the starting pitcher and hero Luke Kallad would deliver a single to left field to walk off and send Fargo to the state tournament.

The Fargo Bombers will play in game one of the day on Wednesday.
