MINOT, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown Post 14 entered the West Region tournament as the No. 1 seed, but found themselves on the wrong end of 9-8 extra innings loss to the Dickinson Volunteers.
The lead jumped back and forth in this one with Jamestown taking a 4-3 lead into the seventh inning following a balk by Dickinson starter Carson Weiler in the fifth inning.
Chris Erickson relieved Jakob Schempp for Post 14 and was asked to try and get the final four outs. He got a quick out after hitting to end the sixth. In the seventh, a RBI triple into left center field scored the tying run with nobody out. Dawson Douty’s relay to the plate was ahead of the runner, but he was called safe.
With the score tied at four entering the extra eighth inning, the game was blown wide open. A few costly errors and timely hits allowed Dickinson to plate five runs in the inning to take control
Jamestown did not go quietly, a Kohl Kratz bases clearing triple followed by a Max Anderson ground-out cut the lead to one at 9-8, but that was as close as they would get.
Post 14 will play the Bismarck Capitals in a loser-out game at 11am on Wednesday. The Capitals were upset by Mandan, but are already into the state tournament as the host. You can hear the game on ESPN Jamestown.
