JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown 14u baseball team made a run in the state Babe Ruth tournament over the weekend before falling to Wahpeton 3-2 on Sunday in the state semifinals.
Jamestown defeated West Fargo 3-2 on Saturday to reach the final four. They reached the knockout round with a 1-1 record in pool play; a 7-0 loss to Minot and a 7-2 win over Fargo.
In the semifinals, Jamestown jumped out a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs coming after a crucial Wahepton error. Mason Lunzman got the start on the mound for Jamestown and was rolling through 5.2 innings before he reached the 95 pitch limit.
Wahpeton got one in the sixth after Lunzman was lifted and then came through with a walk-off single in the 7th to advance to the title game. They defeated Grand Forks 4-2 for the championship.
