JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown and Stutsman County are both home to some of the older historical sites in the state and a lot of them are in need of maintenance according to Stutsman County Museum Director Alden Kollman.
Kollman says currently, the county levies about around .14 mills out of the possible .25 they can for historical sites. Kollman says they’re in need of maintenance right now.
Kollman says with the deferred maintenance, tourism can’t afford to fund the project. He says the Frontier Village is also in need of repairs and it’s difficult for Tourism to justify helping those costs.
Kollman says the county can delegate the mills to allocate around 40% to the Frontier Village, 40% to the Stutsman County Museum, and 20% for Fort Seward.
Kollman says percentages can be adjusted and that could change on an annual basis. He says .25 mills would be approximately $28,000 that could be used for those needs.
Chairman Mark Klose says the request will be considered as the county continues their budgeting process.
