JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Kids safety was in clear focus during the 3rd Annual Kids Safety Day in Jamestown.
Several Jamestown emergency departments and organizations set up shop at the Jamestown Civic Center Thursday, June 20th for kids to come and see all the different operations that keep them and the community safe.
Central Valley Health Unit Administrator Robin Iszler says within the first hour, they already had around 200 kids come through the door. She says a big highlight of the event is the bike rodeo, where kids navigate an obstacle course with their bicycles.
Stutsman County Emergency Manager Jerry Bergquist stated they were teaching kids how to call 911 in the case of emergency.
Bergquist says her son called 911 and saved his mom’s life. He says they covered when to call 911 and when not to call 911.
Jamestown Police Officer Andrew Staska says they had their vehicles, the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Department, and North Dakota Highway Patrol.
Stutsman County Sheriff Chad Kaiser says the kids enjoyed the undercover Camaro and got stickers while asking questions about what they do.
Jamestown Area Ambulance showed off their ambulance, let kids get on the stretcher and taught them about different chemicals they may see in their home.
Mark Pollert with the North Dakota Game & Fish Department was on hand to talk about water and boat safety.
Another big highlight of the event was the car seat safety checks. Marla Wegner pointed out that they were displaying how to correctly buckle up and also checked car seats to see if they were properly installed.
