CASSELTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Jacob Johnson and Corey Nelson combined on a three hitter as Valley City Legion Post 60 downed Casselton 5-1 in the Region counter and the first game of a double-header in Casselton Wednesday night.

Johnson went the first 6 2/3 innings to get the win. He allowed three hits and one earned run. He walked two and struck out 13. Nelson came in and threw two pitches to get the final out of the game.

Post 60 broke the game open with three runs in the third inning. Briar Harvey had a two-run single in the inning and Easton Hesch drove in a run with a single.

Valley started the scoring with a run in the first on Jacob Johnson’s rbi single and a run in the second when Hesch scored on a passed ball.

Johnson and Hesch had two hits each for Post 60. Brady Sinner had two of the Casselton’s three hits.
In game two, Casselton won in walk off fashion when Max Kobbervig drove in Adam Roden with the winning run in the bottom of the fifth.

Kobbervig had two of the five hits for Casselton. Brady Sinner allowed four hits and two unearned runs in five innings. He walked one and fanned three.

Alex Thornton had two of the four hits for Post 60. Avery Bennefeld scored both runs. Corey Nelson started and shutout Casselton on one hit in three innings of work. He had two walks and a strikeout. Easton Hesch took the loss giving up four hits and three runs in one inning. He walked two and struckout one.

Valley City is now 8-7-1 overall and 6-2 in the East Region. They travel to West Fargo to take on the Aces on Tuesday.
