JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The City of Jamestown has approved the bid for the planned Watermain Improvement Project this summer.

City Attorney Leo Ryan opened the only bid received for the project and reported that the total bid was $1,685,262. The project approval would be contingent upon approval by the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality.

Ben Aaseth with Interstate Engineering says the bid met all requirements, but came in a bit higher than the estimate.

With that in mind, Aaseth said looking at the numbers, he found the bids to be more realistic than the estimate when it came to the reconnect service fees.

The project includes 3 blocks near Anne Carlsen, 2 blocks near the rural fire department, and the remaining blocks are around Eventide and the University of Jamestown football stadium. The council approved the bid to Scherbenske Inc.

Later, Councilmember Dan Buchanan thanked the law enforcement agencies who helped with the May lockdown of the Jamestown Public Schools.

Mayor Dwaine Heinrich also brought up the number of calls the city has received in regards to the potholes in Jamestown.

Heinrich encouraged residents to be patient as city crews continue to take care of the potholes. He also encouraged residents to be sure to keep up on lawn care and maintenance with the abundance of dandelions that have been seen around town.
