JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – As part of the Jamestown Safe Routes to School Project, the city was awarded TA Funding to help create safer pedestrian traffic around the middle school.
The Jamestown Public School District was awarded $290,000 that will be used for two middle school crossing bumps along 2nd Avenue Southeast and a recessed drop-off and pick-up lane with a corner bump out on 3rd Street SE.
“With the help of a local team including the City of Jamestown, Central Valley Health, Interstate Engineering, Jamestown Parks & Rec, and the Jamestown School district, we drafted a plan that included changes to help alleviate some of the congestion at the middle school and better support school walk-ability,” Superintendent Rob Lech says in a report.
“We received the highest grant score as well as the only applicant to receive the maximum grant amount.”
The $595,000 project includes the grant award and the school district’s portion will come from a mill assessment. The city of Jamestown will pay 25% of the $305,000 local share.
Work could start by the summer of 2020.
In other school news, several Jamestown Public School Students were recognized for speech and music accomplishments. Several resignations and hiring’s were also approved.
