YANKTON, S.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown offense didn’t have to do a whole lot because Dru Fitz shutdown the top-seeded Bulldogs of Concordia (NE) in the GPAC Baseball Championship in Yankton, SD on Tuesday afternoon. The Jimmies had just three hits but walked away with a 3-0 victory to claim the title in their first season since moving to the GPAC.

Jamestown got on the board in the fourth inning without the benefit of a hit after a walk and an error allowed Chase Hacker to score. Jason Munsch had been on cruise control to that point facing just one over the minimum through three. Drake Pilat followed with an RBI ground out to push across the second run.

It was more than enough for Fitz who scattered four hits over nine shutout innings. He stuck out two and didn’t walk a batter. After giving up a one-out single in the fourth, no other Bulldog reached base the rest of the game. Fitz retired 17 straight to end it.

Jamestown added a run in the ninth after Tanner Roundy reached on an infield single, just their third hit of the contest. Zach Zurbrugg had the other two, both off of Munsch.

Both teams are headed to the NAIA Opening Round and the brackets will be released on Thursday at 4pm. Wherever the Jimmies are sent, it will be their furthest trip to since the format change in 2009. The closest site is Henderson, TN which is 1100 miles away.

The Jimmies improved to 36-15.
