JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – For the 25th year, the Marketplace for Kids program was held in Jamestown Tuesday, May 7th.
The annual event is for kids in grades 3 through 8 and gives them one-of-a-kind experiences where students explore careers, technology, and the future through hands-on activities that are rooted in entrepreneurship and innovation.
Bob Heitkamp is the Executive Director of Marketplace for Kids. He says all kids that are invited out to the event are encouraged to bring an idea for an invention that they can then learn to market.
Schools that participated include Gackle-Streeter, Pingree-Buchanan, Edgeley, Oakes, Midkota, Maple Valley, Carrington, Kulm, and Jamestown schools.
Ethan is a 5th Grader at Gussner Elementary. He talked a little about his invention, which he came up with after he had an issue with snow getting in his boots.
Annalie from Washington Elementary came up with her idea for Kindness Rocks after seeing them in the community.
William is a 5th Grader and also attends Washington Elementary.
The day kicked off with Jamestown Mayor Dwaine Heinrich and University of Jamestown President Polly Peterson speaking before the crowd of students. Featured Speaker Riley Giauque shared his experiences through Marketplace for Kids and told them how his idea for an invention grew into a business he now owns and runs.
