VELVA, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Cardinals scored the first two runs of the ballgame on Friday night, but a rough bottom of the sixth inning led to five runs for Velva/Drake/Anamoose and they hand Carrington their first loss of the season 8-2. Carrington drops to 10-1 overall, VDA improves to 8-9 overall.
Sophomore Luke Zimmer picks up the victory on the mound working six innings, two runs, eight strikeouts and five hits. Senior Lucas Geiszler suffers the loss, 10 hits, three strikeouts, no walks, two hit batters. Jersey Selzler was 2-for-3 at the plate with two singles, RBI and scored a run. Ricky Gonzales and Tace Pederson had two hits each as well. Payton Smith and Hunter Mittleider had two hits each for Carrington, Drew Page knocked in the two runs. The Cardinals committed four errors, the Aggies one.
