MORRIS, MN (Newsdakota.com) – As they say in the Major Leagues, Hailey Schaefer was dealing!! The sophomore pitcher tossed both a no-hitter and a perfect game Saturday as the Hi-Liners went 2-1 at the Tiger Invitational in Morris, Minnesota.

In game one versus St. Cloud Apollo, she threw a no-hitter as the Hi-Liners defeated the Eagles 10-0. In five innings she walked one and struck out 12. She did it at the plate as well going 3 for 3 with a double and three rbi.

Grace Scherr, Erica Anderson and Sam Ranisate had two hits each. Scherr had a triple and drove in a run. Eliza Johnson and Emma Mielke had a hit apiece. Scherr, Becca Thompson, Mielke and Ranisate all drove in a run.

In game two, the Hi-Liners lost 7-3 to the host Tigers. Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta scored two runs in the first and four in the second and never looked back after the Hi-Liners jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the top of the first.

Grace Scherr leadoff the game reaching on an error. She would come around to score when Schaefer reached on an error. Scherr had three hits for the Hi-Liners who had nine for the game. Becca Thompson had two hits and an rbi. Schaefer, Lexi Leroux, Sam Ranisate and Erin Anderson had the other hits for the Hi-Liners.

Thompson took the loss in the circle. She scattered 11 hits over six innings. Four of the runs were earned with two walks and three strikeouts.

Then in the third place game against Fergus Falls, Schaefer did herself one better than the no-hitter. No hits, no runs, no walks. Schaefer retired all 14 batters she faced, 11 on strikeouts as the Hi-Liners downed the Otters 12-0. She again led the offense going 4 for 4 with a double, a triple and two home runs. She drove in four and scored three times.

Grace Scherr continued her hot hitting. She had a double and a triple ad scored three times. Eliza Johnson, Becca Thompson, Emma Mielke and Erica Anderson each had one hit for the Hi-Liners. Jessie Undem and Scherr drove in a run each.

Valley City is now 6-6 on the season. They will get back into Eastern Dakota Conference action Tuesday when they host Grand Fork Central at Tharaldson Field for a doubleheader. Game one will be at 4:30 with game two to follow at 6:30.
