Cecelia Hannah McFadgen, 91, of Valley City, ND passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, April 18, 2019 surrounded by her family while under the care of CHI Hospice.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Epworth United Methodist Church with Pastor Dayne Zachrison officiating. Visitation will be held there on Friday from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service to follow at 7:00 pm.

Cele was born on September 3, 1927 to the late Adam and Hannah (Hauge) Stavert at the Rollette, ND Hospital. She finished high school through correspondence and graduated with her teaching degree from Minot State University. She taught in one room school houses and finished out her teaching career in Jamestown, ND.

On June 3rd, 1962, she married the late Gordon K. McFadgen. They lived on a farm northwest of Valley City where they raised cattle, chickens, pigs, and small crops. They had a daughter Jeanie and son Jim.

Cele was a lifetime member of Epworth United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for 38 years. She was a member of East Rogers Homemakers Club and in 2008, Cele was the Farm & Ranch Guide Country Woman of the year. Cele drove bus for North Central and Barnes County North Public Schools for 41 years before her retirement in 2017.

She is survived by one daughter, Jean (Sean) Magee; one son, Jim (Cynthia) McFadgen; five grandchildren. Jessica (Jacob) Olson, Tyler (Jaclyn) McFadgen, Justin (Taylor) Magee, Garrett McFadgen, and Ashley McFadgen; three great-grandchildren, Lewi, Cecelia, and Henry Magee. She also has her two sisters, Helen Peterson and Irene Howitz and several nieces and nephews that survive her.

Cele was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and baby brother.
