OAKES, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes baseball squad was shut down in a pair of games against Kindred-Richland on Thursday night. Held to just two combined hits, Oakes dropped game one 12-0 and game two 7-0.

Game 1: Kindred-Richland 12, Oakes 0

The Vikings were handed a phenomenal start by their starter Sawyer Rolland. The right handed senior dealt 6 complete innings allowing just one hit in the process while striking out 10 Tornadoes. Rolland’s stellar start was backed up by a prolific attack from the Kindred-Richland lineup. Seven out of the nine batters reached base safely, there were 12 hits, four extra base hits and only five strikeouts.

Taylor Schall started the game on the mound for Oakes and dealt three innings and allowed two earned runs (five runs total) on six hits and a pair of walk. The lone base hit of the game belonged to TJ Johnson on a leadoff single in the 5th inning.

Game 2: Kindred-Richland 7, Oakes 0

For the second straight game, the Tornadoes were shut out while gathering just one base knock. Over the last three games, Oakes has been held to a single run.

This time it was Trenton Dufner starting for the Vikings. Dufner went four innings, didn’t allow a hit but saw a decent amount of traffic on the bases thanks to six walks allowed. Dufner manouvered around the traffic, however, by striking out six Oakes batters.

Oakes’ lineup struck out a total of 11 times and mustered only one hit. The lone hit for Oakes in game two came via a lead-off single from Howie Neustel.

Next game for Oakes will be a doubleheader on Monday against Enderlin-Maple Valley starting at 4:30 from Cummings Field in Oakes.
