CARRINGTON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Cardinals of Carrington finished in third place last year at the State Class B High School Baseball tournament in Jamestown and finished with a 15-6 overall record. Head Coach Wayne Shipman, who started the spring baseball program for Carrington in 2004, is hoping to get back to the state tournament again this year with six of the nine starters returning from that state tourney team. They will get tested early this season as they take to the road for two games on the turf at Bismarck Shiloh’s Dwyer Field on Friday for the Shiloh Invite. Carrington will play the very first two games of the day on Friday, April 5th, they will meet Harvey/Wells County at 10am, followed by Velva at noon. Velva finished fifth at state last year. Both games can be heard on AM 1600 and FM 100.1 KDAK the Cardinal and newsdakota.com starting about 9:45am pregame.
Coach Shipman talks about practicing indoors with other spring sports teams because of the poor conditions outside:
Region III will have just four teams this year including Carrington, Medina/Pingree/Buchanan will play a JV/JH schedule. Shipman says that one of the goals is to make state again:
The Cardinals will have strong pitching again this year with Senior’s Kyle Leapaldt, Lucas Geiszler, Payton Smith and Drew Page, their batting lineup will be tough as well:
