WAHPETON, N.D. (KBMW) – Wahpeton Police Chief Scott Thorsteinson said Wednesday afternoon that a homicide occurred in Wahpeton just before midnight on Monday.

The incident happened at 815 Center Street South late Monday night according to Thorsteinson where a 37-year-old male was fatally stabbed.

Police arrived at the scene of the incident around 11:40 p.m. Monday according to Thorsteinson. The victim was found injured and life-saving efforts were administered. He died at the scene and was the only person at the crime scene while the suspect had left.

Thorsteinson said the act does not appear to be random and the subsequent investigation led to a suspect taken into custody around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Due to the fact that the suspect hasn’t been formally charged as of Wednesday afternoon, the name was not available, nor the name of the victim.

Thorsteinson added the victim was a male who lived in Wahpeton while the suspect was a resident of the Wahpeton area.
