JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Justin Hovater has been creating tattoos for more than 16 years.

He’s now achieved one of the greatest accomplishments in his career.

Hovater is originally from Jamestown, but got his start in tattoos in California. After having moved back to Jamestown, he worked through a few studios before finding major success with Studio 40 in Jamestown.

Since coming back, Hovater says he’s been getting clients from around the region with some even traveling as far as California and Texas to get work done by him.

Hovater says a recent tattoo that took him more than 50 hours and a year to complete was submitted to Inked.

This piece took Hovater about 58 hours in a year to complete. It’ll be recognized in the April edition of Inked.

Inked debuted in 2004 and has since grown to include celebrities from the likes of Ozzy Osbourne and Slash to Kat Von D and Avril Lavigne. They have also honored artists like Don Ed Hardy and Horiyoshi III, high-profile tattoo artists.

Hovater says once you’re recognized by the magazine, they start publishing more pieces of work. While he’s been published by other magazines before, being published in Inked will be a milestone for him.

He says now he’ll just continue doing what he’s doing and if more recognition comes, he’ll be ready for it.

Hovater will be highlighted in the April edition of Inked. You can learn more about his studio here.
