CITY (Newsdakota.com)–In the program’s third year back at Valley City State University, the Vikings have a track and field national championship to celebrate.
Darien Moore (Jr., Bakersfield, CA) claimed the national title in the mens’ hammer throw with a toss of 60.96 meters (200.0 feet) at the NAIA National Meet in Marian, IN.
Moore did not just win the title, he clobbered the competition. He was the only competitor to throw at or over the 60 meter and 200 foot level, and he was six feet better than the competition.
A transfer from Bakersfield College, Moore has broken VCSU records in the weight throw and shot put. Head coach Ken Frennete said, “The top throwers were all very close. Darien threw well under pressure and showed he had the poise to carry it through.”
