JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The third and final day of the 2019 Class B Region III Boys Basketball tournament was held at the Jamestown Civic Center with the third place game and championship on Friday night, here are the results:
Lamoure/Litchville/Marion 68  Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter 59
LLM led for most of the game after three ties early in the first quarter. The Loboes had three players score in double figures as they beat the Imperials for third place. Shay Ness led the way with 21 points, followed by Jamison Kramer with 20 and Rory Gentzkow added 19, including six treys. For the Imperials, Jamison Fettig had 20 points and seven steals. The Loboes end their season at 19-4 overall, NGS ends at 14-11 overall.
Ellendale 56  Carrington 47
The Cardinals of Carrington jumped out to a 21-13 lead at the end of the first quarter but scored under 10 points in each of the quarters after that and drop to the Cardinals of Ellendale in the Region championship game. The two teams met for the fourth time this year, in the third place game at the Stutsman tourney, also in the regular season and the District V tourney. Ellendale won the first meeting, Carrington the next two and then Ellendale the last meeting in the region finale. In the four games, the winning team scored in the 50’s.
Ellendale shot 55% from the field, shooting 22 of 40. Freshman Scott Wagner led Ellendale with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Junior Hunter Thorpe added 16, all in the fourth quarter and Senior Austin Molan had 13. Carrington was led by Senior Trey Rosenau with 14 points. The game featured eight ties and one lead change. Ellendale outscored Carrington 18-9 in the fourth quarter, Thorpe had all but two points for Ellendale in that quarter. Carrington ends their season at 16-9, Ellendale improves to 15-10. Ellendale won the Region III championship in 2017 over Carrington and finished in third place that year at the State B.
21st year Head Coach, Brian Vance for Ellendale joined the Q101 postgame report on Friday night and said the offense struggled to find their groove at first.
