JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – American Association of University Women are prepared for more than 350 Stutsman County students in the annual Tech Savvy & STEMtastic events in Jamestown March 7th.
TechSavvy was originally called “Broadening Your Horizons” and was later dropped due to participation issues. AAUW then picked the event up and has held it nationwide ever since. Jill Schlenker is a member of AAUW Jamestown.
Schlenker says TechSavvy focuses primarily on girls and STEMtastic is for the boys. She pointed out that each will focus on interest for girls and boys, but give a wide range of different tech and STEM careers and trades.
Other areas of coverage include computer coding for dance animations and party’s, designing a lunar landing system, creating Polymers, and more.
Trades including linemen, auto mechanics, and more will be represented by area businesses. While four-year schools are encouraged, Schlenker says the day will show students that a four-year school is not necessary for some.
AAUW Jamestown Branch will be collaborating with the North Dakota STEM Network, Jamestown Public School District, and University of Jamestown for the hands-on workshops and opportunities.
Students in grades 6 through 8 will be in Jamestown for the entire day March 7th. For more, visit techsavvynd.org.
