JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown United Way will be attempting to reach their $200,000 goal by the end of today.
Jamestown United Way has held several fundraisers during the pledge campaign and at the organizations events. The goal was set by funding requests made to the Jamestown United Way by the area organizations which are supported by the campaign as well as any Venture Grant applications.
United Way member Cassie DuBray says there are multiple organizations in the area that benefit from the funding United Way provides.
One of those organizations is Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE). SANE is run through the Jamestown Regional Medical Center.
JRMC Foundation Director Lisa Jackson says nurses in SANE examine sexual assault victims to find evidence to prosecute their assailants. She says nurses are trained to also provide support and refer them to other agencies in the community that can help them after the assault.
Jackson says the number of SANE nurses has increased thanks to grants and funding from organizations like the Jamestown United Way.
As far as the foundation goes, Jackson says the JRMC Foundation received a venture grant from the Jamestown United Way that helped them purchase the germ-zapping robot R.O.S.I.E.
