COOPERSTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The 9th Annual Cassidy’s Ride was held February 23rd near Cooperstown.
The event was founded as a way to help Griggs County Central be able to bring in speakers to help educate and assist kids in finding ways to deal with the issues they are facing today including bullying, depression, and social media.
It’s also a way to remember Cassidy Andel, a Cooperstown high school student who took her own life because of bullying.
Co-founder Carl Sad reports that the day started out with a glitch, but the ride itself was incredible.
“We had 44 sleds register, a record number, and 40 people in vehicles,” he pointed out. “The snow was plentiful along the route, which did cause a few people including myself and my daughter to get stuck. Each stop, we were well received.”
The Sutton Bar had a chili feed and bake sale where owner Tammy Jacobson donated all proceeds back to the ride. Sad says the silent and live auctions went really well with fast and furious bidding.
“Auctioneer Todd Parkman donated his time to help out,” Sad pointed out. “The early count is up to $12,200 so far with more to be added.”
Sad says they’re already looking at next year’s ride.
“My wife and I were amazed by the outpouring of support this year and could not be more grateful for all the help.”
